Short but scenic, this is a shaded 2-mile paved loop trail at Alderman's Ford Conservation Park along the Alafia River (Lithia, FL, east of Brandon). We discovered it while checking out kayak launches on the Alafia River (link below). Off the beaten path and not a long trail, but we rate as an enjoyable bike or hike if you're in the area. (Map link, photos below.)
Location: Hillsborough County
End Points: Alderman's Ford
Regional Park, Lithia, FL. CR 39 north of the intersection with CR 640.
Mileage: 2 mile loop
Surface: Asphalt
Nearby points of interest: Alafia River State Park
Page Summary:
The trail loops around the park, along and over the Alafia River, through cypress and oak hammock.
Alderman's Ford was created by settler James Alderman in 1848 when he fashioned a crossing by cutting down the steep banks of the river. Today, the 1,100 acre park has parking, restrooms, picnicking, playground, camping, hiking trails, boardwalk, and a popular canoe/kayak launch. Small park fee applies. Great place to take the kids!
