GF&A Trail
Reported: April 2018
The bike trail is on the route of the former Georgia, Florida & Alabama Railroad, but today commonly called the Gopher, Frog & Alligator Trail (GF&A Trail). Running through the Apalachicola National Forest, a 2.5 mile paved section has been completed - envisioned in the future as part of a 52-mile trail from Tallahassee to Sopchoppy. Note: Forest trails may be closed at times due to weather or other factors, check the link (below) for current status. (Map link and photos below.)
Location: Apalachicola National Forest (Leon
County)
End Points: Trout Lake Park to
Helen Guard Station Road
Mileage: 2.5 miles (one-way)
Surface: Asphalt
Nearby points of interest:
Apalachicola National Forest
Page Summary:
Trout Lake Park is the main trailhead, with parking, restrooms, picnic and fishing. At the Helen Trailhead on FR 354 is dirt parking only, or there's a small dirt parking area at trail end on Helen Guard Station Road. The first mile of the trail is wooded before crossing and then running along Springhill Road - but sufficiently off the quiet road to maintain a serene feeling.
