Paved Bike Trail Between Suwannee and Ichetucknee Rivers - Plus Spur to the Santa Fe

The trail runs on an old CSX Railroad corridor from the Suwannee River at Branford to the Ichetucknee River bridge, paralleling US 129 and US 27, with a spur to the Santa Fe River. Several parks, benches and rest stops are located along the way. This is a rural area. Parts of the western trail section on either side of Branford are well shaded. It then opens up with virtually no shade along US 27 (bring sunscreen and water). (Map link and photos below.)

Branford to Ichetucknee River

At the west end, the trail starts at the intersection of US 129 and CR 248 about 3 miles north of Branford. Park at the Branford Trailhead (parking, picnic) or at Ivey Memorial Park (full facilities, see below). In Branford, there are numerous cross streets and driveways. Continuing eastbound, the trail follows US 27 with only a few crossroads (the busiest being at CR 49), passes through a gopher tortoise preservation area, and ends at the bridge over the Ichetucknee River - cross the bridge to connect to the Ichetucknee to O'Leno Trail for a longer ride. A new 2.5 mile spur along CR 49 (about half way between Branford and the Ichetucknee) leads from US 27 south to Guy Lemmon Memorial Park (see below) on the Santa Fe River.
